SmCo magnet, the first generation of rare earth magnet, is produced by powder metallurgy sintering process. The ground alloy powder is molded by die pressing under a magnetic field for getting anisotropic magnet. It combines virtues of high level max. energy product, excellent thermal stability and outstanding corrosion resistance. The anti-demagnetization ability of SmCo magnet in opposite magnetic field is quite perfect particularly at high temperature environment. Therefore it is extensively designed in components what are with small physical size but high performance level, especially where magnet will encounter strong demagnetization field and is required with outstanding thermal and chemical stability.
Our sources are with long history of solely producing SmCo magnet since 1970¡¯s. Here environmental protection system ISO14000, quality assurance system ISO9001 and ISO/TS16949 are in operation and have been authenticated by recognized third party. Investment of state-of-the-art facilities including 120kg capacity sintering furnace imported from Japan has been put into service to improve property homogeneity, upgrade magnetic property and enlarge production. Engineers succeeded in researching new grade magnet with better thermal stability and higher performance. The veteran workers accumulated rich experience on machining extremely brittle SmCo magnet with mini size, complex geometry and narrow functional deviation. SmCo5 and Sm2Co17
SmCo magnet is classified SmCo5 and Sm2Co17 due to obvious difference of composition. Sm2Co17 magnet is with higher (BH)max and better thermal stability. It is also with advantage of lower material cost due to less content of cobalt than SmCo5 magnet. SmCo5 magnet offers better corrosion resistance. It is less brittle than Sm2Co17 magnet and relatively easy to be machined. Sm2Co17 magnet and SmCo5 are sub-classified again basing on ingredient difference what will influence magnetic property and thermal property.
Magnet shape and dimensional tolerance
Ring, cylinder, disc and block geometry SmCo magnet are available by press-molding process. SmCo magnet with complicated geometry or small size could be available by machining process on molded magnet. Drill holes, cavities, indentations and grooves on SmCo magnet are also possible if working direction is aligned parallel to the pressing direction. Optimized design of geometry and dimension will be much helpful to decrease magnet cost by reducing machining works. The dimensional tolerance could be generally controlled within +/-0.05mm. More precise dimension deviation +/-0.015mm is also achievable upon request.
Thermal property
SmCo magnet is with outstanding thermal stability. Some of its temperature characters are almost on a par with or even better than those of AlNiCo magnet. At working temperature over 150¡æ, the magnetic output of SmCo magnet is higher than of NdFeB magnet. The temperature characters of SmCo magnet vary with magnet material composition as below table. It is also with feature that increasing environmental temperature results reversible and irreversible loss of flux. Aging SmCo magnet in advance can prevent further irreversible flux loss.

Chemical resistance and coating
SmCo magnet is very stable in atmosphere condition at ambient temperature, even in an environment of humidity over 80% RH and temperature over 80¡æ for long time for example over 1000hours, only discoloration is found on magnet surface. At low temperature condition, SmCo magnet is resistant against organic acid solutions, alkaline solutions, solvents, lubricants and neutral poison gases. It will result in dissolution or decomposition if SmCo magnet is encountering inorganic solutions, salt solutions, water and hydrogen gas in long term. Generally SmCo magnet is not coated for protection purpose. In compliance with customer request, galvanic coating of zinc, nickel, gold, silver and liquid dipping coating of epoxy could be applied on SmCo magnet.
