Flexible Ferrite Magnet
The manufacturing process of flexible ferrite magnet is to embed barium or strontium ferrite powder in synthetic rubber or plastic (NBR, CPE etc), then the composite will be extruded to be strip with various profile or calendered into thin sheet. The flexible magnet is also called rubber/plastic ferrite magnet. It is with virtues of flexibility, cheap cost, excellent corrosion resistance and availability of minimum thickness even 0.2mm. Flexible ferrite magnet can be made with either isotropic character or anisotropic character. It could be multi poles magnetized with preferred pattern. Injection Ferrite Magnet
Injection ferrite magnet is available by molding compound of barium or strontium ferrite magnet powder and chosen thermal plastic. The molding process is executed by an injection machine what is mostly modified with function of generating a magnetic field for making anisotropic magnet. Injection ferrite magnet also can be made with isotropic property. It is with good mechanical properties and high edge strength. Up to now PPS or PA (mainly PA6 or PA12) are of the best option due to good combination of physical strength, corrosion resistance, water absorption, solvent resistance, max using temperature and ease of processing. Beside axial magnetization, anisotropic injection ferrite magnet can be diametrically magnetized with multi poles. Incorporate injection of magnet together with other parts for example shaft or bearing bush etc is also practicable to save further assembling cost.
Profile Shape and Practicable Dimension
Flexible ferrite magnet is commonly in strip or sheet form and could be rolled for storage and transportation. For special design and engineering application, strip could be extruded with various profile of cross section. Basing on characteristic of flexibility and elasticity, flexible ferrite magnet sheet could be die-cut into various flat profiles and pre-slit into strip without damage. By injection process, magnets of both diverse shapes and complex configuration for instance small figure, thin wall, multi cross hole, reinforcing ledges and gear etc are all producible with little dimensional variability. Economically controlled tolerance +/-0.10mm could be further narrowed on critical dimensions without extra machining.
Surface Treatment
Bonded ferrite magnets are quite stable at most circumstances. It possesses the stability of both ferrite magnet and thermal plastic or synthetic rubber. There is no necessary to have them coated for anti corrosion purpose. For beauty, cleaning and application purpose, flexible ferrite magnet could be UV treated, laminated with colorful or printed vinyl (PVC), covered with adhesive and other material.
Temperature Character
The maximum working temperature of bonded ferrite magnet is depending upon both binder and ferrite magnet powder. The temperature will obviously take effect on the physical character of bonded ferrite magnet such as swelling, shrinkage, hardness and strength etc even the curie temperature is 450≧. For flexible ferrite magnet, magnet using NBR binder is with higher working temperature up to 100≧. For injection ferrite magnet, magnet using PPS binder is with the highest working temperature up to 200≧.Bonded ferrite magnet succeeds temperature character of sintered hard ferrite: increasing of temperature will lower remanence while intrinsic coercive force is increased; and irreversible loss of force will occur when magnet works at cold condition.
